Life’s not fair people?
Be honest, are you or are those around you ‘life’s not fair people? Are things that happen in your life always someone else’s fault? Are your choices apparently blocked by external influences?
How would you feel if I told you that none of the above is actually true?
The challenges life throws at us are there for us to navigate ourselves (with expert professional support where necessary, admitted).
We are the masters of our own destiny, by and large, and we have to face up to that fact – good and bad. You just need to decide what you want your destiny to be.
Have you ever heard life being described as a book of chapters? It’s a great analogy – and better still, as well as being the main character in said book, we are also the authors of our own life stories.
Think about it – in any book you have a plot, sub-plot, action, relations, love scenes, interaction. But key to it all, you have the hero, the protagonist. And I’m here to tell you, in the book that is your life, it’s you.
You have the power to write it how you want and you get to choose what role you play. In the face of adversity, you could be a victim or like me, a successful survivor.
You could choose to cast yourself as an entrepreneur, artist, leader or teacher. The role doesn’t matter, it’s a personal choice.
For all of us, the only part of the book we can’t really write is the end. However, we can write the body of the story with the desired end in sight – it becomes the journey to the end.
And the nature of that journey, the twists and turns it takes, how you manage the bumps in the road, depends on what you want to achieve, what you write.
Part way through that journey, you might choose – or be forced – to take a detour. And that’s fine – just remember you’re in the driving seat with the power to direct your next moves.
Equally you can pull over and take time out to think ‘where do I want to go next’ – that’s OK too.
At all times, remember you are the hero of your story. Own it. Make it how you want it to be and no matter what challenges life throws at you along the way, don’t forget to keep on writing.
